Hurricane IKE was the third
most destructive hurricane
to ever make landfall in the
United States killing at least
194 people and causing in
excess of 24-billon dollars
in damage. The storm reached
the Houston ship channel on
the morning of September 4,
2008 with maximum sustained
winds of 145 mph.
I have never seen anything
like it in my 24-year insurance
career. What impressed me
the most about the storm is
what took place within the
first 36-hours after impact.
Employees, agents and district
managers from around the state
of Texas banded together to
not only help our customers
who were left without homes,
electricity or food…but
we helped anyone who needed
assistance. Claims adjusters
were in San Antonio, Texas
3-days prior to landfall preparing
to disembark to the hardest
hit areas to immediately respond
to customers in need.
Within 24-48 hours after
the storm, we had generators,
huge Claims RV’s and
tents in highly visible areas
to start the claims process.
